Curriculum
What we offer is flexibility! Positive Start Family Child Care offers a planned Early Childhood Curriculum alligned with the Rhode Island Learning Standards, in a relaxed home setting. Our program encompases the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of your child. We incorporate structured and unstructured activities to accommodate the group as well as individual needs.
This an enrichment program! Children learn through interaction with people and objects. They need to have many opportunities for fun and interesting experiences with a wide range of materials and in a variety of settings. They require opportunities to interact with their peers and with adults in a variety of ways. It is important for them to pursue their own interests as individuals. Children learn best by DOING -whether it be painting, assembling puzzles, making pretend, cuddling for a story, computer skills or building with blocks.
The activities we provide for them are challenging and at the same time fun! We allow room for the children to be creative. We help the children build a strong sense of their own individuality and self esteem. The most important part of our day however, is play. Children are encouraged to explore and develop at their own pace and interest level. Emphasis is on the "process" rather than the "product." Thus a child can learn, problem solve or simply make a friend. Children will explore a well-rounded balance of learning experiences. They will develop many important skills needed to be successful in Kindergarten.
We foster close communication between home and Positive Start! This enhances learning opportunities and rich language through our Family Connection pieces. These unique, easy-to-do learning experiences maximize busy family routines and promote a strong bond between home and school.
